Finance Assistant/Credit Controller

About the role

The management and allocation of payments through appropriate and timely credit control processes for Whitespace Exhibitions and Whitespace Xpo Ltd. Support the Account Assistants with their functions as and when required.

Your role and your responsibilities

  • Review credit applications, research client history on credit safe and companies house, recommend and monitor credit limit
  • Manage the outstanding sales balances falling due and contact customers before balances become overdue
  • Confirm customer payments, follow up with client by email or phone
  • Where required, initiate proceedings to ensure outstanding debts are bought to satisfactory conclusion
  • Prepare regular reports on the sales debtors on Credit Hound
  • Raising of sales invoices, posting to debtor and nominal ledgers and allocation of cash settlements
  • Reconciling accounts sales orders with Filemaker and the accounting system
  • Monitor client balances, reporting on problem payers, resolve customer queries and act as appropriate.
  • Reconciling our main Euro, Dollar and Sterling bank accounts daily. Monitor and post Sage pay and PayPal transactions. Reconcile accounts for month end close
  • Preparation of monthly commission report for Account Managers and Payroll
  • Liaising with Warehouse to ensure Storage invoices are sent out correctly and keeping the Storage report up to date
  • Reconciliation of bank account; preparation of refunds, direct debits, and BACS payments; accepting credit card receipts
  •  Assisting the Account Assistants where required
  • Assist with cash flow projections
  • Ad hoc tasks, credit card expense check and approval, suppliers’ invoices upload and payments of invoices on Barclay bank

Your experience and skills

  • AAT qualification
  • A minimum two-year credit control experience
  • Computer literate with good knowledge of Excel, Word and ideally SAGE 200 accounting and SAGE payroll software or similar, WAP
  • Good organisation and administrative skills.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work on own initiative.
  • Attention to detail and timeliness.
  • Articulate and confident
  • Flexibility to deal with multiple customer accounts.

Remuneration and benefits

  • Between £27,000 – £32,000 basic salary
